Lenny Copp, owner of world renowned restoration facility, West Coast Classic Restoration, stopped by the shop a while back driving what at first appeared to be a standard run-of-the-mill Thing. As he drove up I couldn’t help but notice the lack of engine/exhaust noise. Good reason. One of Lenny’s clients had yanked the VW engine and replaced it with an electric motor. We drove the “E-THING” around the block a couple of times and realized this was a serious piece; strong, smooth and virtually silent. Except for the maze of batteries replacing the rear seat, and a somewhat quirky shift mechanism, no clutch, this was a really cool ride.
