We have put another VW Drag Night into the books! Over 1000 spectators were on hand to witness some unreal racing and 2 record setting runs from both Eric Calabrese in the Red Baron and Kris Lauffer in the Hater Maker. With a 40% chance on thunderstorms all day and night and rain pounding the area just around the track, the chances of finishing a 12 hours event were questionable. However, the only delay we had was for lightning and it only lasted 20 minutes. The temperature dropped some 10 degrees and we all went back to the track and started one of the most awesome displays of track management I have ever witnessed. Cars were in the staging lanes on time or before and going down the track one after the other in record fashion. Scott Pocaro took charge after finishing the 6.90 Index race and ran an unbelievable event. Hats off to Scott and his brother Stephen.
We had 68 race cars, nearly 60 show cars, and a good number of vendors. Stokes VW from Charleston SC brought in their VW Accessories trailer and sold a large number of items to the crowd. Kombi Ice Cream made a long adventure driving from Alabama to sell their product in 90+ degree weather. We gave away digital cameras, MP3 players, guitars, bicycles, shirts and bags to as many kids as we could find. I hope they enjoy everything! Stokes VW provided free VW Drag Night water and koozies all day and night. It was a great time and I am looking forward to putting another event together for next year.
