27 Mar Classy Chassis Wins Bitchin’ Surf Bus
Okay, just how cool is this? Hot college coed, way cool Surf Bus, and “Best Buns to Win” contest, what’s not to like. Earlier this year Hollister, one of the world’s most sought after, trend setting lines of youth oriented clothing, held a contest to find “who looked best in our jeans”. Entrants submitted a photo of themselves wearing the company’s classy threads and the public voted on which of the entries looked the hottest.
Out of several thousand entries, Adrienne “Lizzy” Marola, a smokin’ coed at Costal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, left little doubt her derriere, and all the rest of her, was to die for.
Far more than just a pretty face, Lizzy majors in Biology with a minor in Health Promotions and is heavily involved with the soccer, track & field, gymnastics, basketball programs. Additionally Lizzy spends much of her free time enjoying a round of golf with her boyfriend, a highly rated pro golfer on the Coastal Carolina circuit. With a passion for, warm climates, friendly beaches, a “no worries” laid back lifestyle and personal fitness, Miss. Lizzy was a perfect match for the kick back, surf’s up image portrayed by VW’s finest. Who says you can’t have it all!
The bus itself is a ’78 Bay Window pulled out of a field where it had been wasting away for the past 15 years by Rancho’s marketing director, Bob Clark. The Rancho crew volunteered their time and expertise rehabbing and upgrading everything from the pumped up 2.0 and beefed freeway flyer .091 to replacement of the braking and suspension systems, trim, rubber, TWS interior, etc. The contest promoters decided early on that a VW bus was going to be the first prize in their cool clothing contest, but it couldn’t be just any bus. Like the contest winner, the grand prize had to be exceptional, inside and out.
To secure such a vehicle they went direct to the man, Lenny Copp owner of the legendary West Coast Classic Restorations. Lenny had seen the Type 2 with its fresh Rancho driveline running between his shop and Rancho and made arrangements to purchase it as a base for the Hollister giveaway ride. Copp proceeded to do his thing based on detailed information and renderings provided by Hollister. The bus was treated to a costly and crowd stopping facelift including full leather limo style wrap around interior complete with television front and rear DVD, flawless body and paint, classic white walls on stock rims with beauty rings and much more.
As requested the bus was even fit with a rack and surfboards prior to the giveaway. The finished project was a testament to Coops amazing coach work and Rancho’s undisputed reputation for quality and reliability. Definitely a party ride perfect for the occasion.
