30 Aug Big Wednesday
Surfin’ and Munchin’. Dude, it doesn’t get any better than this! Skip work, cut school, sneak out or do whatever ya gotta do and go surf for the day. BIG WEDNESDAY assembled for the first time about 10 years back. Rich Kimball and family were facing another impossibly jammed schedule one beautiful summer day, looked at each other over the breakfast table and in unison screamed “ screw this, let’s surf”! Of course doin’ it alone wouldn’t be much fun so they spread the word around the VW community and the response was awesome. Held the second Wednesday of August at San Onofre State Beach in San Clememte California roughly half way between Los Angeles and San Diego, Basically it gives a bunch of So. Cal. VW types an excuse to blow off the boss and enjoy a day of surf, sand, good vibes and smokin’ food. As always Hot Dog Fred was on hand doing what he does best and to put the frosting on the cake, or in this case, mustard on the dog, Rich hand made 2 trophies. One for Best Surfer and the other going to Best Surf VW.
Lucky for us Rancho’s intrepid provider of all things cool in VWdom, Vic Penrod was on hand this year and brought us these infectious images. No doubt next year is gonna have even more So. Cal. employers saying “sick my ass”.
